Opening Ceremony for freshmen of grade 2015: start your dream in ZISU

“Clear Qiantang River, green Xiaohe Hill, where foreign languages gather; different cultures, daily changes, broad minds, all to help cultivate talents……”Accompanied by the melodious anthem, Yao Chengrong, the Party Secretary of ZISU, put school badge of ZISU on freshmen representatives, which means that freshmen of grade 2015 have become ZISUers.

At the dawn of Sep 20, accompanied by the rising sun, 2288 freshmen of grade 2015 gathered on the sports ground of Xiaoheshan Campus, and the opening ceremony began with the solemn national anthem. Several leaders of ZISU attended this ceremony; they are Yao Chengrong, Hong Gang, Zhao Fa, Luo Bowei, Jin Yuncheng, Zhen Yali, Zhao Qingrong, Cao Renqing, Shen Gang and Zhang Huanzhou. The ceremony was presided by Deputy Party Secretary Zhao Fa and Wang Xiao, a translation major from grade 2013.

Hong Gang told every new ZISUers as follows. “Entering college means that you have opened a new journey of life. Henceforth, you have joined the family of ZISU. In here, you will broaden your horizon, enrich your knowledge, you will become more independent and mature.”
Hong Gang’s speech ”ZISU’s motto enlightened your path” carefully illuminated the spirit and profound meaning of ZISU’s motto of “Virtue, Perseverance, Erudition, Practicality”. “Virtue” means highlight the beauty of humanity, he said, the foremost thing to be a ZISUer is to be determined and noble in character. In ZISU, we attach great importance to moral education and developing a good character. From this term on, ZISU will fully implement the undergraduate tutorial system and begin to construct the academy system. I hope that under the guidance of excellent teachers and under the influence of outstanding peers, all of you will highlight your good words and good deeds, and always remember that a good moral cultivation is above everything. “’Perseverance’ means that as an intellectual, you should be ambitious and strong.” As a ZISUer, you should stand high and aim far and be strong willed. Don’t fear the “stumbling block” ahead of your road, try to temper a strong will, accumulate broad knowledge and improve the ability to solve problem in your process of continually overcome difficulties. “Erudition” means pure and broad knowledge. To be a ZISUer, you should have a proper and global attitude toward learning. As college students, learning knowledge is your main task. In addition to classroom learning, another way of learning is read extensively. ZISU also encourages you to participate in international cooperation projects, experience the International Cultural Festival, and to participate in a variety of campus cultural lives, and experience the charm of multi-culture. “Practicality” not only means well digested and completely understood, but also means solving problems in a practical way. To be a ZISUer means you should thoroughly master knowledge as well as its application and in this way benefited the whole society. ZISU is building a new three-dimension practical teaching system of “professional practice+ International volunteer service+ Innovation and entrepreneurship”, I hopes all students could elevate your practical ability and cross-culture communication ability, and transfer your original idea into action, and produce a number of results, even launch your own businesses.

Hong Gang hopes that the students could gradually understand the profound meaning of“Virtue, Perseverance, Erudition, Practicality”, and set it as the highest standards of their college life. He hopes that the spirit of ZISU’s motto will enlighten their path, and assimilated into their spiritual trait and value pursuit. He hopes that the students will finally grow up to high quality international inter-disciplinary talents, and serve the whole society and public with the same identity——ZISUers.

The 4th session advanced individual in teaching ethnics of Zhejiang Province, Prof. Shao Shuang from School of Science and Technology spoke on behalf of teachers. He shared with freshmen some opinions about the question “How to spend one’s college life?” He said that university is a new starting point in life, you will face a lot of new challenges, and you should learn to set goals, develop independent learning ability and improve self cultivation. Teachers will be competent and qualified supervisors in their study, and close friend in their lives.
Spanish foreign teacher Sara Bueso Arino shared her learning and growing experience with the title “little Sara”. She told students to work hard continually and be patient and never give up their dreams, because sooner or later they will realize their dreams one day.
 

Ding Hongjia, a grade 2013 student from School of International Business and Wang Yixiang, a freshman from School of European Languages spoke on behalf of old students and freshmen respectively.

Stick to the university motto of “Virtue, Perseverance, Erudition, Practicality”, be civilized and trustworthy, be hard-working and perseverant, grow up and chase the dream! The opening ceremony ended with the sonorous and forceful oath of all freshmen.

Afterwards, ZISU held the military training mobilization meeting & flag presentation ceremony, and all 2015 freshmen will receive military training in the next nine days.

Directors from all schools and related departments, counselors, headmasters of freshmen and all freshmen participated in the opening ceremony and the military training mobilization meeting.
